Friday's Friendly Reflections

One of my favourite things to do, apart from reading, is writing, so I love this blog link up that I've found at McGuffy's Reader . In the Friendly Fill-ins we're given written prompts (the words in purple bold) and then complete them how we wish.

1. October is the perfect time to celebrate porridge at the 24th Annual World Porridge Making Championship on October 7th. This festival happens in the tiny Scottish Highlands village Carrbridge and we're hoping to attend tomorrow. Last years winner was from America and he's back again this year to try and retain his trophy. If you'd like to read more about it Click Here.

2. Halloween is the perfect time to throw a fancy dress party, but I've only been to three during my life. My three costumes have been; a Gypsy, Magenta from the Rocky Horror Picture Show, and a Witch.

3. Every October, I always feel a bit torn about the season as I love seeing the beauty of the changing leaves, but I really dread the colder, wetter weather.

4. My experience with the supernatural world is minimal and confusing. I tend to sit on the fence with this as I think that there are a lot of things in life we don't see but we still believe them. I have had a couple of unexplained experiences and both of them were shared with different people so it wasn't just me, which I guess makes it more believable.

The graveyard and ruined church pictured below is on the Isle of Skye off the west coast of Scotland. I love these places and have never felt creeped out in one and believe me when I say that we have been around hundreds of old graveyards, all in varying stages of repair. The enclosed area at the end of the church is the first time I've ever felt uneasy and I had to get out of there very quickly. Ken went in after me and when he came out he said that he felt something weird in there - who knows, maybe we'd both eaten something funny.

What are your thoughts about October and Halloween? Before you go, why don't you pop over to McGuffy's Reader to see what my fellow bloggers have come up with.

Until next time, be good, stay safe, and we hope you have a wonderful day.

  1. You two are so interesting and I am so glad to know you! Porridge! I would love to go to that event! Truly! Have fun! And, I love those costumes! How cute you both are! I love old graveyards. I go to as many as I can visit. I feel that these are people. They should be validated. They mattered, and still do in time. But...I agree. Sometimes, there is a place that has a "feel" to it that is somehow "wrong"...get out. I have. Thanks for being part of our fill-ins. I hope to see you at Sparks! Hugs.

    1. Porridge festival visited and I'm about to write a post about it - totally crazy. I'm glad someone else enjoys graveyards - I don't know why, but I always feel a bit of a connection in them. Thanks for stopping by.

    1. Yes Cookie is adorable and I think she knows it - she's sitting beside me meowing as I'm not paying attention to her. Thanks for stopping by.

  3. Hi Pam and Ken - what a wonderful photo ... you two certainly do have fun. Princess looks very happy in her new bed. Just the serenity of a lovely country churchyard can be so beautiful ... I just prefer my English tradition of Bonfire Day ... I know Halloween is the norm now ... enjoy these autumnal days - cheers Hilary

  4. Hey Pamela.
I envy you for being in a climate that you get to experience the autumn colors. Here in Texas! It's green all year around. It goes from green leaves for spring, summer and fall to no leaves for winter. Very boring. I grew up in western New York and so miss the changing of the seasons.

That's interesting about your experience at the church. I had one a long time ago that was definitely a sign meant for me but at the time I was too dumb to realize it. I realized it later though. I had been dating this guy --young and in love, you know how that goes. Anyway we had a big fight and I just felt a need to be close to God so I asked him to pull into the church parking lot. Fortunately the doors were unlocked so we went into the sanctuary and sat in a pew. All of the sudden this guy jumped up and ran out of the church. I went out after him and he was throwing up in the parking lot. Wish I would've realized the sign then: he ended up being a sociopath and I went through hell with him, also my family. There ended up being 5 prosecutor hearings and 2 court dates and a lot of stalking and harassment. The detective on the case told me I was lucky I wasn't stuffed into a trunk!
When I looked back on everything, there were many signs that I just ignored...or was just too dumb to realize. That night in the church: I realized that his evil wasn't welcome there and that's what caused him to get so violently sick so quickly. At least that's how I now interpret it. That was over 30 years ago. And unbelievably, he popped back up in my life a few years ago and continues to send me birthday and Christmas cards, professing his love for me. It's very disturbing. Of course I don't respond but I keep all the cards in case anything ever happens to me. He lives over 1500 miles away so I doubt he'll ever show up. I hope not anyway. My psychic told me he would definitely pose a danger to me if he were to show up. So weird that this guy popped up all these years later....

Anyway, I definitely believe in psychic phenomenon and spirits, both good and malevolent. And for sure I know I have Angels around me all the time. Everyone does. it's really cool when you can recognize their presence.

Have a great weekend. I'm actually working a psychic fair today and tomorrow. I have worked for a psychic who has been recognized as Austin's best psychic (Joe Nicols) for several years. I help out at the psychic fairs 4 times a year and also am his assistant at some of his psychic development classes.

I'm sure you guys have something fun and interesting planned for the weekend. Wish we lived in the same area: I'd love to meet you and Ken! Have fun, whatever you're doing.
